The goal of government in the Divine Plan is to protect and to ensure a just and moral order for its citizens. Voting is another way we profess the Gospel. Unjust and immoral laws are contrary to the Divine Order because they cause chaos, which results in weak and unhealthy communities. Without a strong and healthy society, we can never reach our potential in this world, and it is then even more difficult to achieve the holiness needed for the next.
This country, unlike others, was founded to be a Republic by the people and for the people. It is a constant struggle to maintain goodness. Given the current environment, our society is getting more lost and confused, even over simple Truths like life and gender. The Archbishop has been mentioning the need to vote in November to defeat Ohio’s proposed Abortion Amendment. In addition, there is a special election on August 8th to protect Ohio’s Constitution. Ohio already has one of the weakest standards for passing Constitutional Amendments. Currently a change in an Amendment happens with only 50% + 1. Most states require a 2/3 majority. When something is not fortified properly, it becomes more subject to attacks.
Whether or not one agrees or disagrees with the current amendment process, we all have a duty to vote. Given that this is a special election taking place in August it can easily be overlooked. A popular way of voting in recent times is to vote by an absentee ballot. You may obtain an absentee ballot by going to the State of Ohio website, VoteOhio.gov. If you are not yet registered to vote, this is a good time to do so. One must be registered 30 days prior to an election. You can go to ohiosos.gov to register.
Together we can make a difference to protect our God given rights, especially our religious liberties and the protection of human life.
